JIM PIELA
A New York State of Mind

Jiim Piela is a New York City-based saxophonist, composer and educator. After earning his bachelor's degree in music from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, he completed his graduate studies at NYU in 2015 and has since been performing and recording as both a sideman and leader. He leads a jazz group under his own name, as well as the Planetary People, a funk/groove based ensemble. His compositions and recordings have been featured at several international film competitions through his work with Boink!, a NYC-based dance company. Jim has recorded two albums for Momentous Records, most recently the 2016 release Non-Fiction, Recorded at Crooked Creek Studio with his quartet (Trevor Brown, bass; Mike Verselli, keyboards; Josh Bailey, drums), the music is inspired by the storytelling aspects of Slaughterhouse Five, the classic Kurt Vonnegut novel.
