Kit Mayer has been making music since coming to the La Crosse area in the late ’70s. Working in groups, duets and as a solo artist, he helped found the bands Blind Baby Olin & the Workbenches, Jawbone and most recently The Mayer Brothers Band – all of which emphasized originality in both style and songwriting. Kit's style of songwriting and production is firmly rooted in the world of Americana music.

His latest album. Stone's Throw, features 10 new original songs and was released Dec. 18, 2021. Backing Kit in the studio are top local musicians Jeff Sherin, Mark Divini, Terry Nirva, Joe Hauser and brother Hans Mayer. Greg Balfany, leader of the La Crosse Jazz Orchestra, also wrote a horn arrangement for one of the tunes, performing the part with Jeff Krauklis and George Von Arx. Momentous Records artist Ariane Lydon is featured on one song. Momentous artist Brett Huus, Irene Keenan Jr. and Nancy Stoll Caucutt provide backing vocals on other tracks.

Originally released in 1997, his first solo recording Sporting Life was also remastered for re-release on Momentous Records in 2020. Kit's original songs also appear on the 2017 Momentous release Stay Out of the Rain by the Mayer Brothers Band.
